Design Philosophy
Understanding people, their emotions and tendencies, their perceived needs and desires, their habits and routines are all elements that influence my goal: To solve problems.
If I had to name my style, the word that comes closest is industrialism. I approach my design on a needs basis, whether it’s a request from a client or an idea for improving what already exists. In all cases, I want to couple function and a pleasing form to create a holistic package—true working art.
The style of my personal pieces is strongly influenced by the materials of industry: steel, rivets, large bolts, exposed welds. And my construction frequently follows the techniques used in heavy industry so that the final piece delivers sturdiness and quality—a satisfying sense of permanence.
Making good use of reclaimed materials lends to design aesthetic, but is also environmentally sound. I hope to design products that are not disposable, but instead will hold both sentimental and functional value for at least a lifetime.
No matter what the project, every piece I design offers durability and purpose.
